PM Modi Asks MPs To Celebrate Raksha Bandhan With Muslim Women. Will It Protect Women From Communal Violence?
This is heartbreaking!

We often hear about how action speaks louder than words, haven’t we? We’ve time and again heard PM Narendra Modi speak about women empowerment and while he has worked towards empowering women, his recent actions have left us questioning if the highest political office is actually worried about women or the vote bank. In a recent move, PM Modi has urged BJP leaders to connect with Muslim women during Raksha Bandhan and highlighted his government’s decision to ban triple talaq. This move comes against the backdrop of the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Today on #MannKiBaat, Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji mentioned the joyful experiences shared by women returning from Hajj through letters.

PM Narendra Modi made the statement during a meeting of MPs of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) from Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand on August 1. The Prime Minister urged his government to organise programmes during Raksha Bandhan to reach out to women from the Muslim community and while that would be a good thing had the timing of this been better. This comes at a time when there is communal violence happening in Haryana’s Nuh near Gurugram which is making way for sexual violence. The recent Manipur violence is proof of how communal violence leads to crimes against women.

Recently, in West Best, two tribal women were allegedly assaulted and stripped after being accused of stealing. They were later arrested and kept behind bars for six days. The incident occurred on July 18 and video of the two women being stripped went viral. To make matters worse, the recent National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, more than 13 lakhs women have been reported missing across the country with the highest number of missing cases from Madhya Pradesh followed by West Bengal, Maharashtra and Odisha between 2019 and 2021.
Narendra Modi the PM of India hasn’t spoken on
– atrocities on women in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh.
– rapes and murder in Manipur
– police firing in Bihar in 2020
– communal, anti-Muslim slogans raised in Uttarakhand
Only someone, who is both, a coward and has a dead…

Amid all the atrocities being committed against women across the country, the highest political office is more concerned about reaching out to women from a minority community instead of focusing on eradicating crimes against women altogether. What’s even more shocking is that our political leaders are doing this on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan which goes to show that they wish and hope to protect women from the Muslim community when they have failed to even discuss how to protect women against sexual violence amid communal clashes. Our highest political office seems to be focusing on the vote bank and attacking the opposition (as we witnessed during the Monsoon session of the Parliament) instead of actually doing something about the crimes against women.

Minority or not, crimes against women have been on the rise due to communal violence and our government has effectively failed to protect us against it.
