Parvathy Thiruvothu spoke about how Hemma Committee Report is a game changer!

The Hema Committee Report has shocked everyone in the country with its cases of s*xual abuse and exploitation in the Malayalam industry. Celebrities from Tamil, Malayalam, and more industries have been asked about their stance on the report. Anow now, award-winning actor, Parvathy Thiruvothu has called the Hema Committee Report a game-changer and a historic moment. She also spoke about how actors coming out naming their alleged abusers is more than just MeToo part 2.
Parvathy Thiruvothu’s Stance On The Report
Parvathy Thiruvothu, a member of the campaign group called Women In Cinema Collective (WCC) who led the report said that the idea was that women working in the industry should feel grateful for having been given an opportunity by men who were hiring them. The allegations of abuse in Indian movies are not new. It had a surge in 2018, shortly after the 2017 MeToo movement erupted in Hollywood against disgraced US film producer Harvey Weinstein. However, Thiruvothu described the latest charges as more than MeToo Part Two.
In a conversation with AFP, she said that it’s shaking everything. She added that it’s not an individual-to-individual complaint anymore and is more about the systematic structure that has failed women. This was because several big actors’ names were also there in the report. She also gave a message to all those women who have survived sexual assault by telling them that they are skilled artists who should not listen to anyone who has told them to look for another job if this one is getting too difficult. She advised them to speak up because the industry is as much theirs as it is for other people.
According to the Justice K Hema Committee study, which was released on August 19, sexual harassment is the worst evil that women actresses endure. The study, led by a former high court judge, was formed after a prominent Malayalam actress claimed being sexually assaulted in 2017. Gopalakrishnan Padmanabhan, a well-known Malayalam actor who goes by the stage name Dileep, was arrested for allegedly arranging the assault. He spent three months in prison before being freed on bail. The lawsuit continues.
However, the publication of the report has sparked debate on the far larger issue of chronic violence against women, inspiring many like Sreelekha to speak out in public for the first time. It stated that women who pondered coming out against sexual assault were silenced by threats.
