Born on February 18, 2002, in Jhajjar, Haryana, where legendary boxers and wrestlers come from. Even though such games were a major part of the state, Manu still tried her hands at other sports like skating, tennis and boxing in school. Furthermore, she also practised thang ta which is a form of martial art, and won several medals at the national level. Things took a turn when Manu was 14, right after the Rio 2016 Olympics when she suddenly decided to try shooting and fell in love with it. Just a few days later, she asked her dad to buy her a sports shooting pistol so she could practice shooting and improve her skills.
After excelling at the Asian Junior Championships and coming close to victory at the Asian Games, Manu’s journey had its highs and lows. However, it was her outstanding win at the Youth Olympics that gained her the status of a shooting prodigy. On winning India’s first Olympic gold in shooting at the age of sixteen, Manu became a national star. Moreover, under the guidance of Jaspal Rana, she continued to rise and secured her spot in the Indian shooting team. With this, she paved her way at the Tokyo Olympics.
