Behind every successful man, there is a woman, and that surely stood true for the late filmmaker Yash Chopra. Pamela Chopra, Yash Chopra’s wife stood by him every step of his filmmaking career, and it is with a heavy heart that I say Pamelaji has passed away at the age of 74. She breathed her last in Mumbai on April 20, 2023.
As per reports, Pamela Chopra was battling pneumonia, and was admitted to Lilavati Hospital to seek treatment for the same. She was in the hospital for 15 days, it is said. Pamela Chopra was often seen in cameo roles in Yash Chopra’s movies. One of the most popular movies wherein Yash and Pamela Chopra were seen together was Dil Toh Pagal Hai.
Pamela Chopra was last seen in the Netflix documentary series titled The Romantics. The docu-series paid an ode to Yash Chopra and his love for filmmaking that resulted in some of the greatest hits that he gave. Pamela made an appearance in The Romantics where she spoke about Yashji and how he came to be a director. Their love story was also shared with several unseen pictures from their marriage were also shown.
Pamela Chopra also contributed to the creative process of the films. She was often credited as the designer, singer and also as writer of many of the films Yashji made. She sang some of the hit tracks like ‘Ghar Aaja Pardesi’ from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, ‘Main Sasural Nahi Jaaungi’ from Chandni, ‘Surkh Jode Ki Yeh Jagmagahat’ from Kabhie Kabhie and more.
