India’s first woman Olympic gold medalist gave up her career in the sport because she could not win the fight against the power holders. After sexual harassment accused former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s aide Sanjay Singh became the WFI president, Sakshi Malik announced her retirement. However, in the latest updates, Sanjay Singh has been suspended by the Sports Ministry but it has nothing to do with the retirement, this only followed when the new WFI chief made a hasty decision without prior information!
Why Sanjay Singh Is Suspended?
The new WFI President Sanjay Singh on December 21 announced that the U-15 and U-20 National games will be taking place before the end of the year and that too in Nandini Nagar, Gonda is located in Uttar Pradesh. This uniformed decision of the new WFI President was not welcomed by the Sports Ministry and was considered to have broken many rules too. Therefore, in their official statement, they announced Sanjay Singh’s suspension till further notice.

Sadly, the authorities did not take much time to announce Sanjay Singh’s suspension over a misinformed and hasty decision, but when wrestlers protested against him, to the extent that one of them gave up on her career, nobody bothered to pay heed. In fact, the suspension of the former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh also seemed impossible over serious allegations of sexual harassment.
