Times have changed and so should we. Now in all of those cricket discussions and debates, it’s time we also started talking about the records and achievements of women cricket players. There are many record-breaking moments by the players that need to be acknowledged and discussed in normal conversations too! In the recent T20 World Cup, one such proud moment was made possible by Australian captain Meg Lanning who clinched her 5th World Cup trophy as the captain, breaking records of cricketers like Ricky Ponting and MS Dhoni.
After the unfortunate defeat of the Indian women’s cricket team in the semi-finals against Australia, the final match was played between Australia and South Africa. It took place on February 26, Sunday in Cape Town. The Australian women’s cricket team won against South Africa by 20 runs. As a team, this was their sixth World Cup win but was the fifth win under the leadership of Meg Lanning. Before this, Australia also won the World Cup titles in the year 2014, 2018, 2020, and 2022 and the latest victory is the 2023 T20 ODI World Cup. With her fifth World title win, Meg Lanning has broken records that were previously held by Ricky Ponting and MS Dhoni. For the Australian Men’s cricket team, Ricky Ponting’s captainship got the country 4 World Cup titles and as for India, MS Dhoni’s leadership led the team to win 3 of them, as per the news.

But leaving both the masters of cricket behind, Meg Lanning has made a new place for herself on the victory table with 5 World Cup wins. Lanning was given the responsibility as the captain in 2014 and was the youngest captain that their country had ever seen. But she has definitely not disappointed ever since and the Australian women’s team has seen newer heights under her captaincy. It is so inspiring to see women like her who prove that determination and hard work never goes in vain.
