Indonesia-American model Manohara got Married To Malaysian prince when she was 16.
Indonesian-American Model Manohara Odelia candidly penned about her alleged abusive marriage with Malaysian Prince Tengku Fakhry on social media. She claimed that the marriage was coerced, illegal and non-consensual. The model also requested not to refer to her as “Mantan Istri” while describing her relationship to the prince. What Did Manohara Odelia Write In Open Letter?
Manohara Odelia shared an open letter on Instagram that grabbed many eyeballs. In that the model penned that her marriage to Malaysian Prince Tengku Fakhry was illegal, non-concensual and coerced. She asked not to use “Mantan Istri” while referring to her in articles and headlines, as this description was inaccurate and misleading. Since she was just 16 at the time, Manohara expressed that as a minor, she didn’t have a choice or capacity to give consent. She added that the above term implies a lawful, voluntary adult relationship and marriage, which is a false implication in her matter.
She urged Indonesian media, writers, editors and even platforms like Google and Wikipedia to stop using that term. Manohara mentioned that continued use of articles with such mischaracterisation is inaccurate and unethical journalism. She shared that her request wasn’t about going back to the past but about accuracy, mindfully using context, language and ethics. She ended the open letter with a powerful statement that said survivors deserve to have their stories described with dignity and in a truthful manner.

When Did She Marry The Malaysian Prince
Manohara Odelia and Malaysian Prince Tengku Fakhry tied the knot in 2008, when she was a minor. It was alleged that after the marriage, freedom was stripped away from her. Additionally, she had very little contact with her family and was under constant surveillance in the palace. It was in 2009, when she reportedhy went on a royal trip and fled to a hotel in Singapore. With her mother, US Embassy and local authorities’ help, she returned to Indonesia.
