1)  Seven-Day National Mourning Declared

The Union government has announced a seven-day period of national mourning in honor of Dr. Manmohan Singh. During this time, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast across all government buildings and Indian missions abroad. Additionally, December 27 has been declared a holiday for Karanatak and all official entertainment events and celebrations have been suspended.

2)Hault On Governmen t Programs

The Congress party has also decided to halt all official programs, including its foundation day celebrations and public rallies. These cancellations will extend until January 3, 2025, as a mark of respect for the leader. The decision highlights the immense loss felt within the party, where Dr. Singh was not only a prominent figure but also a guiding force for many years. Moreover, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar also paused his Pragati Yatrya program to pay his respects to Dr Manmohan Singh.

3)  Tributes Pour In from Across the Globe

Dr. Singh’s death has prompted heartfelt tributes from leaders around the world and within India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi described him as a distinguished leader whose wisdom and humility earned him respect globally. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other members of the Cabinet paid their respects at Dr. Singh’s residence in Delhi.
Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders from the party, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Mallikarjun Kharge, expressed their deep sorrow, remembering him as a mentor and a guiding light for the party and visited him. President Droupadi Murmu also joined in honoring his legacy and visited him residence, emphasizing his service to the nation and his unblemished political career.

4)  Funeral Arrangements Scheduled for Saturday

Dr Singh’s last rites will take place on Saturday, December 28, in New Delhi, with full state honors. His mortal remains were transported to his residence at 3 Motilal Nehru Marg late Thursday night, where they will be placed for the public to pay their respects. This opportunity allows citizens to bid farewell to the leader who played a vital role in shaping India’s modern economic and political landscape. The funeral will include traditional rituals and a ceremonial tribute befitting his stature as a former Prime Minister. Official notices from the central government confirm that the arrangements are being made to honor him with dignity and respect, highlighting the immense impact he had on the nation. In a report by ANI the national flag was draped over the bier carrying former PM Dr Manmohan Singh’s body.
