Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan’s debut film Maharaj has been surrounded by controversies. The film was banned just days before its release after a case was filed against the film in the Gujarat High Court for “hurting religious sentiments.” And now, the Gujarat HC delivered a verdict on Friday, lifting the ban on the film’s release. The court noted that Maharaj is based on facts so, now the film is streaming on OTT giant Netflix from June 21 onwards.
Gujarat High Court Lifts The Ban On Junaid Khan’s Debut Movie Maharaj
The release of Junaid Khan’s much-awaited debut film Maharaj was halted after claims of libel were made against it. The film team shared the film with the Gujarat High Court for viewing after which Justice Sangeeta K. Vishen ruled that the film was based on facts that led to the libel action and was not intended to offend the Pushtimargi community.

Earlier, Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan’s debut film Maharaj was scheduled to release on June 14. However, the film received severe backlash for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. In fact, during that time #BoycottNetflix and #BanMaharaj were trending on Twitter after VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi called for a ban on the film. Several users also spoke against the release of the film. Internet users expressed their anger over the way certain cultural aspects were depicted in the film. On Friday afternoon, the Gujarat High Court delivered its verdict and gave the movie a clean chit. FYI, Junaid Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat, Shalini Pandey starrer film has been directed by Siddharth P Malhotra and produced by YRF Entertainment. It is currently streaming on Netflix.
