A few days back, comedian Kunal Kamra found himself in a controversy when he released his new episode. One of his jokes on Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde did not sit well with the Shiv Sena members and they vandalised the venue where the show was shot. FIRs were also filed against the comedian. Kunal Kamra had given an official statement on the same and as per the latest updates, he has now moved to the Bombay High Court to annul the FIR filed against him over the ‘traitor’ joke.
Kunal Kamra Moves To Bombay High Court
Comedian Kunal Kamra has moved to the Bombay High Court regarding the FIR registered by the Mumbai Police in connection with his alleged ‘Traitor’ joke on Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. On April 5, Saturday, Kunal Kamra appealed to the Bombay HC with a request to quash the FIR. Kunal Kamra has filed this plea based on various sections under the Constitution like Articles 19 (1) (a) (right to freedom of speech and expression), 19 (1) (g) (right to practice any profession and business) and 21 (right to life and personal liberty).

As per the reports, Kunal Kamra’s plea would be heard by Justices Sarang V Kotwal and Shriram M Modak. The hearing is scheduled for April 21, 2025.

Many political figures had reacted to Kunal Kamra’s comedy show and wanted him to apologise for the joke. However, in his statement, Kunal Kamra denied apologising for anything and said that he would cooperate with the authorities and would only apologise if the court asked him to. Kunal Kamra also slammed the Shiv Sena workers for creating a ruckus at the Habitat, Khar where the show was shot months ago.
