The horrific case of a 31-year-old trainee doctor in Kolkata who was raped and murdered in-duty in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital shook the nation. Active protests across the country by doctors and across social media have ignited strong debates and pressures on the justice system. The father of the deceased doctor recalled his daughter’s love for medicine in an emotional interview.

Kolkata Doctor’s Father Talks About His Daughter

In a heartbreaking interview with The Guardian, the father revealed that they come from a poor family and that his daughter was raised under difficult circumstances. He revealed that she worked really hard to become a doctor and all she did was study all day. He said that all their dreams were shattered in one night. “We sent her to work and the hospital gave us her body. It’s all finished for us,” said the father. The father of the victim very sadly said that his daughter was never coming back and that he would never hear her voice again. He revealed that he is now only focused on getting her justice.

On August 9, the body of a postgraduate trainee doctor was discovered in the lecture hall at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The following day, a civic volunteer named Sanjoy Roy was detained in connection with the incident. Later, the Calcutta High Court sent the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation. The rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata on August 9, and the subsequent treatment of the case by authorities, have sparked protests and strikes by physicians across India.

The victim’s father revealed that his only kid had always wanted to be a doctor. At the age of 31, she defeated the odds to earn one of the approximately 107,000 slots in India’s medical institutions, where over a million aspiring doctors compete annually, according to the same report. Her parents supported her goal with her father’s unpredictable salary as a tailor.
