Kolkata Doctor Rape, Murder: Protestors Demand Solution Not Resignation From CM Mamata Banerjee
On Thursday, CM Banerjee addressed the situation, urging the protesting doctors to return to work!

Protests continue in Kolkata as junior doctors demand justice for a trainee doctor allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The protests, held near Swasthya Bhawan in Salt Lake, have escalated as doctors refuse to engage in talks with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee unless their demands for a live-streamed meeting are met.
The trainee doctor’s body was found on August 9, prompting widespread outrage. On Thursday, CM Banerjee addressed the situation, urging the protesting doctors to return to work, emphasizing her focus on justice for the victim and proper treatment for citizens. Mamata Banerjee further stated that she has no greed towards her Chief Minister’s post and that they must prioritize justice and healthcare for the common people. Mamata Banerjee also spoke about how she forgave the protestors for not turning up after scheduling the meeting and how they waited for them for almost 2 hours. She added that as an elder person, it’s her responsibility to forgive the juniors.
Despite the chief minister’s willingness to meet the doctors, they insisted on a live broadcast of the discussions for transparency. Government officials, including Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, explained that live streaming was not feasible but offered to provide a full video recording of the meeting. However, the doctors were firm in their stance, continuing their strike.
The Calcutta High Court has also stepped in, giving the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) three weeks to present a progress report on their investigation, with a deadline of September 17. The trainee doctor’s death has led to widespread calls for accountability, with both doctors and the public demanding a swift and thorough investigation. As the protests continue, tension remains high between the state government and the medical community as Kolkata city and the whole country await a decision on the rape and murder of the PG trainee doctor.
