Kolkata Doctor Rape, Murder Case: Victim’s Parents Allege There Was Pressure From Cops To Cremate Body ASAP

In the ongoing investigation into the rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, the victim’s parents have made serious allegations against the Kolkata Police. The family has revealed that they wanted to preserve their daughter’s body but were pressured into an immediate cremation by the authorities.

What Did The Victim’s Parents Reveal?

According to the victim’s family, they faced overwhelming pressure from the police, with officers allegedly surrounding their home in large numbers. The father of the victim claimed that hundreds of police personnel were stationed outside their residence, creating a tense atmosphere that left them feeling forced to proceed with the cremation. He further noted that the cremation was rushed and that the family was not asked to cover the associated costs, leaving them with a sense of helplessness. The family also raised concerns about the actions of certain police officers during this time. The father accused senior officials of attempting to offer financial compensation and pressuring him to sign blank documents, a request he refused. These allegations have raised questions about the conduct of the police in handling the situation following the discovery of the doctor’s body.

More Details

The victim’s mother has joined the protests led by junior doctors at RG Kar Medical College, expressing her deep sorrow and determination to see justice served. The family remains supportive of the ongoing protests, which demand accountability for the horrific crime and the lapses in the investigation. The father also questioned why the hospital authorities prematurely labelled his daughter’s death as a suicide before a proper examination of the body was conducted. He criticized the delay in allowing the family to view the body, which they claim took over three hours. Moreover, the family is seeking clarity on why an unnatural death case was initially filed by the police instead of a murder investigation, and why there was a significant delay in filing the First Information Report (FIR).
