The gruesome rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has shaken the country. Doctors and students in Kolkata have been protesting for around 20 days demanding justice for the deceased doctor. In recent events, the victim’s mother lashed out at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after she issued threatening remarks towards the doctors who are protesting.

Victim’s Mother Lashes Out At Mamata Banerjee

On Friday, August 30, the doctor’s mother lashed out at the West Bengal CM. She condemned Mamata Banerjee’s threatening remarks to the protesting doctors saying that she wants the protests to go on until her daughter gets justice. The victim’s mother lashed out after Mamata Banerjee’s controversial comment at a TMC meeting where she said that an FIR was filed against doctors and that their careers would be ruined.

This comment of hers received much backlash from opposition quarters and doctors’ bodies who termed this statement as veiled threats. Speaking to ANI, the mother stated that she did not like the CM’s remarks. She also added that because Mamata Banerjee doesn’t have any children herself, she cannot understand the pain of losing a child. She also added that their whole family was hurt by the CM’s comment. She said that while the whole world is fighting for justice for her daughter, Mamata Banerjee is saying that they don’t want justice.

During the 27th foundation day rally of West Bengal’s Trinamool Chhatra Parishad in Kolkata on Wednesday, August 28, Mamata Banerjee asked the doctors to rejoin their duty in a speech. She said that while she supports their agitation, she appealed to them to join work again and wouldn’t file any complaint against them. She also added that SC has stated that the government will take action and proceeded to threaten their careers and said that those doctors will not get visas or passports.

After this statement of hers received much backlash from opposition and doctors, she shared a clarification post on social media. While she denied making any threats, she said that social media was running a malicious disinformation campaign against her.
