Kolkata Doctor Rape, Murder Case: Victim’s Father Writes Letter To Home Minister Amit Shah Urging Him For A Meeting

The father of the Kolkata doctor who was brutally raped and murdered inside the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting his involvement and support in the aftermath of their heartbreaking loss. In the letter, the bereaved father underlined the enormous emotional strain he and his wife have been under since the horrible tragedy and asked for a meeting with the Home Minister.

In the letter, the father of the Kolkata doctor wished Home Minister Amit Shah a very happy birthday and wished for his good health. He further said, “I am writing to respectfully request an appointment with you at your convenience or at any other location as you may suggest. After that heinous incident happened to our daughter, we have been going through tremendous mental pressure” He asked the Home Minister to meet him as he wanted to discuss some points with him and his wife.

He also said that he would appreciate some of Amit Shah’s guidance and insights on the issue as he believed his experience would be invaluable. He then requested a few minutes of Shah’s time regarding the matter and asked for the location and time to meet.

On August 9, 2024, a trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was found slain in the hospital’s seminar hall. The police apprehended Sanjay Roy, a civil volunteer, for the crime. The CBI detained Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, and Abhijit Mondal, the now-suspended officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station.

The victim’s parents have joined the state-wide protests since her body was discovered. In previous statements to the media, the victim’s parents accused the government and police of attempting to “hush” up the occurrence as suicide and “hurriedly cremating the body”. The victim’s parents also claimed that several Kolkata police officials sought to bribe them following the tragedy.
