The father of the 31-year-old doctor who was brutally raped and murdered in the RG Kar Medical School and Hospital in Kolkata revealed that his daughter maintained a personal diary from which he owns a torn page. He revealed that she used to keep it in her bag all the time. He said that he always respected her privacy and never read her journaling.

The sad consequences of the tragic events that happened with the female doctor on August 9, shocked everyone. The victim’s parents have been constantly questioning the authorities to give the harshest punishment to the accused. Recently, in a report by NDTV, the victim’s father revealed that he has a torn page from his daughter’s diary. He said that they never went through her diary because she used to share everything which used to bother her. He said he had a picture of a ripped page from the journal, but he would to provide any other information, stating the CBI has asked that the information not be made public. He went on to say that it is extremely upsetting that his daughter’s career advancement and service to others were not supported by the facility that promised to keep her safe.
This horrific incident has led to many protests nationwide with junior doctors in Delhi, West Bengal, and more marching in the streets in various states to seek justice for the doctor who was brutally raped and murdered on August 9. On August 20, the Supreme Court will consider the case after intervening. The CBI has interrogated Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, for the last three days. To ascertain the circumstances behind the victim’s demise, the agency is looking into his phone data from both before and after the occurrence.

Amidst all this, the lawyer, representing the victim’s family, Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, accused the West Bengal Government of trying to manipulate the witnesses. Bhattacharya chastised the Chief Minister’s conduct in a statement to ANI, claiming that she contacts the families of victims, offers cash compensation, and tries to resolve matters expeditiously. He also accused the CM of having a “rate card” during the handling of rape cases, implying that there is a systematic approach to handling such cases without digging deeper. Criticising the Kolkata police, he pointed out that they did not perform well.
He pointed out that the police commissioner should not have had those press conferences and that they failed to handle the situation properly. Meanwhile, the rape and murder case has been taken up by the Supreme Court on a suo motu basis. The case will now be heard by the SC on August 20.
