On Monday, the Supreme Court ordered the CBI to file a fresh report on the Kolkata doctor rape and murder case. A 31-year-old trainee doctor was brutally raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This incident occurred on August 9 and led to massive nationwide outrage and protests. The Supreme Court also ordered the protesting doctors to resume work on Tuesday by 5 p.m.

Supreme Court Orders CBI To Submit Fresh Report On Kolkata Doctor Rape And Murder Case

A Bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud asked the West Bengal government to provide housing and safety devices and gadgets to CISF officers stationed at the RG Kar Hospital to protect the doctors and make sure they are safe. During the hearing, the court pointed out various issues like the 14-hour delay in FIR and different timings in general diary entries. In response, the court asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit a new report. Additionally, the court also ordered the protesting doctors to resume work on Tuesday by 5 p.m. They also assured the doctors that they wouldn’t face any destructive actions. However, if they don’t return to work by 5 p.m. today, disciplinary action will be taken.

However, the doctors refused to obey their orders, claiming that their demands were still not fulfilled. Moroever, the doctors stated that they would march to Swasthya Bhavan, the health department’s headquarters today. They also asked the state’s health secretary and director of health education to resign. The Supreme Court will resume hearing on September 17.
