Kolkata Doctor Rape, Murder Case: 5 Discrepancies Pointed Out By Supreme Court Bench

The second Supreme Court hearing on the Kolkata doctor’s rape and murder case took place on September 9, a month after the incident. The CBI submitted a status report before the bench headed by CBI DY Chandrachud but SC asked for a fresh one Tuesday as the investigation is still under process. The Supreme Court bench also pointed out many discrepancies in the investigation. From the late FIR to the postmortem report, here are the questions raised by SC.

1. SC Points Out Discrepencacies Between CBI and State Government

The Supreme Court bench noted many differences in the status report of the case submitted by the CBI and the State Government respectively. The general diary entries in both reports differed

2. Post Mortem Challam Missing

The Solicitor General raised the concern about the post-mortem challan not provided by the West Bengal in the RG Kar Medical College doctor’s rape and murder case. The bench questioned the government on how the postmortem was done without a formal request.

3. CCTV footage

The Solicitor General also pointed out that 27 minutes of the CCTV footage was handed by Kolkata police to CBI in four clippings. However, Kapil Sibal claimed that there was some technical glitch.

4. FIR 14 Hours Late

The Supreme Court bench yet again questioned the authorities about the delay in filing FIR in the Kolkata doctor’s rape and murder case.

5. Death Certificate

The death certificate issued for the trainee doctor’s death was around 1:47 PM whereas the unnatural death registered in the police record was at 2:55  PM.

The next Supreme Court hearing will take place on September 17. The CBI has also been asked to submit a fresh report on Tuesday, and the SC bench has yet again stated the removal of victim’s photo and video from the social media platforms.
