The Kolkata rape and murder case of a junior doctor has sent shock waves to the entire nation. On August 9, 2024, the body of a 31-year-old, trainee doctor from Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was found. Ever since, doctors across the country, political, leaders and celebrities have been protesting against the system, to see the accused and announce punishment of the highest order.
The latest update has come from the city of the incident–Kolkata, where many political leaders from the opposition have been demanding for West Bengal CM–Mamta Banerjee’s resignation. Amongst the many is the mother of Nirbhaya, the victim of the 2012 gang rape case has demanded Mamta Banerjee’s resignation. On Saturday, August 17, 2024, Nirbhaya’s mother demanded the West Bengal CM”s resignation citing her negligence towards the case. She also stated that instead of using her power to find the culprit, she’s been holding rallies and diverting people’s attention. She also added–”She herself is a woman. She should have taken strict action against the culprits while discharging her responsibility as the head of the state.”
For the unversed, the 31-year-old, trainee doctor was brutally raped and murdered while on duty at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. Students of the college, friends and parents of the victim are fighting to find the culprit. After a failed investigation by the city police, the case has now been transferred to CBI. West Bengal CM, Mamta Banerjee also spoke about the case and headlined a party rally on August 16, protesting for justice.
