Mamata Banerjee Demands Justice For Kolkata Doctor, But Her History Of Problematic Statements On Rape Has Left Us Shocked!
WB CM Mamata Banerjee may be demanding justice for Kolkata doctor but her history of offensive stance on rape is not helping her case.

The gruesome rape and murder of a second-year postgraduate trainee doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College has sent shock waves across the country. As protests continue across India, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also decided to lead a rally demanding a speedy trial as well as capital punishment for the rapist(s) in the Kolkata doctor rape and murder case. Her rally has not only enraged the public but has also made the internet question who she is really holding the rally against. While we don’t have answers to those questions, one thing seems to have broken the internet – an old statement made by Mamata Banerjee.
Fact Check On Mamata Banerjee’s Statement About Rising Rape Cases
Several social media posts are being circulated claiming that West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee stated that rape cases are on the rise because men and women interact freely these days. Now, what’s interesting is that the political leader actually made this statement back in 2012. Mamata Banerjee pointed out that back in the day men and women would get caught by parents and reprimanded if they even held each other’s hands but things have changed now and everything is “open” making it an “open market” with “open options”.
But Hold On, That’s Not The First Time Mamata Banerjee Made A Problematic Statement
– When the Park Street gang rape took place in 2012, the TMC leader called it a fake incident and claimed that it was made up to target the government. Sure…
– In the 2012 Katwa gang rape, Mamata Banerjee claimed that nothing was found in the medical report of the victim and stated that she had heard that a political party that the victim’s husband supported planned and plotted it.
– In the 2013 Kamduni Rape Case, the West Bengal CM reportedly ran into a crowd of angry women when she visited the victim’s family and she responded by calling the angry mob supporters of the opposition playing “nasty politics”.

– In the 2022 Nadia Rape Case, the CM claimed that as per what she was told the minor girl had an affair with the accused boy. She then went on to question if the media had investigated if the girl was pregnant or had a love affair become calling it rape. And hold up, she also said that the family of the minor girl was allegedly aware of the affair and went on to call it “personal freedom” of the minor.
– In the 2024 Kolkata Doctor Rape and Murder Case, Mamata Banerjee accused the opposition parties of doing it to “create unrest”. We don’t know about Bam and Ram but our leader has repeatedly blamed the politicians instead of the accused for horrific crimes.
More On The 2024 Kolkata Doctor Rape And Murder Case
On August 9, the body of a trainee doctor was found at the RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. She was found by a colleague in the seminar room of the college in a semi-nude state. She was bleeding from her eyes, mouth and genitals. Her parents were initially told that their daughter was unwell but later informed that she committed suicide. Upon seeing the body of their daughter after waiting for 3 hours, the family realised there was foul play. The postmortem revealed that the victim was sexually assaulted before being murdered. Unhappy with Kolkata Police’s investigation, the family of the victim appealed to the Calcutta HC for a CBI probe. Currently, the CBI probe is ongoing.
