West Bengal, especially Kolkata has been in chaos since the last few days after the horrific crime of the 31-year-old doctor’s rape and murder case happened at RG Kar Medical College. The BJP also announced a 12-hour strike in the state to protest against the treatment by police of protestors. On the other hand, the West Bengal Chief Minister has also announced that her party will be suggesting a bill to the governor that will pass capital punishment for rapists. Read to know more.
Mamata Banerjee On Passing Bill To Ensure Capital Punishment For Rapists
Mamata Banerjee addressed an event for her party’s (TMC) student wing on Wednesday. During this event, the West Bengal Chief Minister firmly stated that her government will pass a bill that will guarantee capital punishment for the rapists and murderers. Mamata Banerjee further added that the bill will be presented before the WB governor and if he does not pass it, the party will go on an indefinite strike in front of the Raj Bhavan. The WB CM also stated that the Governor should not ignore taking accountability.
Mamata Banerjee also asked why should rapists not be hanged. She has been under a lot of scrutiny after the bone-chilling rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College. Many people on social media also supported the hashtag that called for Mamata Banerjee’s resignation.
The CBI is currently handling the case and the next Supreme Court hearing is due on September 5. The accused who was a civic volunteer is currently under police custody and many shocking details about him surfaced after the numerous interrogation sessions with the CBI.
