Earlier, the Supreme Court ordered the protesting doctors to return to work by 5 pm on Tuesday. However, the doctors refused to obey their orders and continued their strike, claiming that their demands were not fulfilled. The junior doctors have been protesting outside Swasthya Bhawan demanding the resignation of the Kolkata Police Commissioner and senior health officials from their positions. Now, the doctors have sought a meeting with CM Mamata Banerjee and have set certain conditions.
Junior Doctor Sought Meeting With CM Mamata Banerjee Over Kolkata Doctor Case
A group of 30 members contacted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee requesting a meeting to address junior doctors’ proposals. In the email they wrote, “We would like to appeal that the delegation team should consist of 30 representatives as there are many stakeholder medical institutions involved. “Earlier, the junior doctors declined the government’s offer of a 10-member delegation and insisted on a group of 25-35. Furthermore, the chief secretary invited the junior doctors for a meeting at Nabanna for the second time since yesterday, but with a condition – only 12-15 representatives would be permitted.
The protesting doctors have proposed a meeting with CM Mamata Banerjee and here are some conditions. They want representation from all medical schools and hospitals under government administration. Conversations will take place in an open forum rather than behind closed doors. A media representative should be present to enable live television broadcasting of the full discussion. Additionally, TMC took to their handle and stated that the doctor’s protest affected several patients’ access to critical care. They wrote, ” A month after the R G Kar tragedy, confusion clouded the minds of countless patients. The cease-work by junior doctors has left vulnerable people unsure about access to critical care. Those already battling illness are now being turned away by hospitals meant to be their last hope.”
