On August 9, India woke up to the horrifying rape and murder case of a 31-year-old trainee doctor from Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. Since then, the junior doctors have continued to protest against the crime and the lack of security for medical professionals. They released an official statement about resuming their strike and ceasing work completely till the West Bengal government ensures strict safety measures. Read on to know more.
Junior Doctors Resume Strike, Go On Complete Cease Work
The junior doctors in West Bengal had ended the strike after the Supreme Court’s request. However, unhappy with the government’s efforts to ensure the safety of the medical professionals in the state, they have returned to a full cease work, as per the statement to PTI. The Bengal Junior Doctor’s Front gave a clear ultimatum to the government and stated that if their demands were not met, they would continue the full strike.
The junior doctors also added that the West Bengal government showed no positive efforts to stop violence against the doctors and it continued to happen despite the initial 42 days of protests. Therefore, the doctors have decided to completely cease work to pressure the government to bring changes. They have also listed 10 demands that the Mamata Banerjee government needs to put in place.

During the Supreme Court hearing on September 30, Monday, the bench asked the CBI to continue with the investigation and follow up on the substantial leads they have collected. They also asked the West Bengal government to complete the infrastructure changes in the government-run hospitals and accepted the deadline that has been submitted by the government.
