According to PTI, on October 5, a junior doctor on hunger strike was hospitalised due to deteriorating health conditions. Pulastha Acharya, who is associated with NRS Medical College and Hospital, was admitted after he complained of severe stomach pain. As per an official, four junior doctors have been admitted during the protest for the Kolkata doctor’s rape and murder case.

Earlier, three other junior doctors were also hospitalized due to their deteriorating health conditions. Aniket Mahato from RG Kar Medical College, Anustup Majumdar from Kolkata Medical College, and Alok Verma from North Bengal Medical College were all hospitalised. Currently, Pulastha Acharya is in the Critical Care Unit (CCU), and his condition is concerning. Furthermore, a medical board has been established to monitor his treatment. 

Additionally, nine people were arrested on Wednesday night outside the Tridhara Sanmelani pandal and were taken to the Alipore court on Thursday. The court ordered them to be held in police custody for seven days. They faced several charges, including unlawful assembly, assaulting a public servant who was performing their duties, and public mischief, as outlined in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). They are also charged under relevant sections of the West Bengal Maintenance of Public Order Act.

According to the police, they were distributing pamphlets to demand justice for the 31-year-old trainee doctor who was tragically raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. After distributing the pamphlets, the group attempted to organize a protest, following which they were arrested. According to the police, their actions were deemed unlawful. Later, the Calcutta High Court granted bail on October 11 to the nine people and they were released on Friday.
