The second hearing of the Kolkata doctor rape case happened before the Supreme Court on August 22. The CBI presented the status report during the hearing and revealed that attempts were made to cover the crime. However, after the hearing, the SC bench headed by the CJI requested doctors to return to their duties as it affected the normal public. Keeping this request in mind, the resident doctors from AIIMS have called off their protest. Read here to know more.

AIIMS Doctors End Their Protest After SC Hearing

The Supreme Court bench requested the protesting doctors to resume work. They acknowledged their anger and frustration but also assured them of safety as well. The SC bench also stated that the doctor’s strike is hugely affecting the health sector and the poor people are also suffering severely. The Supreme Court also directed that there will no action be taken against the doctors who were peacefully protesting. The SC also directed the Union Health Ministry to take care of the safety and security of doctors who are returning to work.

After the hearing, the AIIMS junior doctors decided to end their 11-day strike. They expressed their faith in SC’s intervention in the case and said that it assured them of getting some justice in the matter. Even doctors from the RML College, Delhi issued a statement and informed about suspending the protests. They will resume work on August 23, at 8 AM.

The doctors have also appreciated the Supreme Court for their statements and intervention in a 31-year-old doctor’s rape and murder case. They also hailed the SC’s efforts to acknowledge the lack of doctors’ safety in India and take strong steps to ensure a change in the matter.
