Kolkata Doctor Rape, Murder Case: As Delhi Doctors Protest At Jantar Mantar, AIIMS Asks Them To Resume Work

Doctors from every corner of the country have risen to fight against the brutal murder of the 31-year-old doctor at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata. The resident doctors in Delhi led a march to protest against the system’s failure to provide a safe and healthy working environment for medical professionals. However, they also thanked the Supreme Court for taking suo moto cognisance of the case and making some strong judgements. Read to know more about it.

On August 21, Wednesday, the resident doctors in Delhi marched in Jantar Mantar to protest the horrific rape and murder case of the young doctor who worked at RG Kar Medical College. AIIMS has however requested the doctors to resume their work. In its official statement, AIIMS acknowledged the anger and disappointment over the case and also extended support to the victim’s family, however, they requested the doctors to not let the common public suffer and attend to the numerous patients. Elective services across all the hospitals in Delhi have still not resumed.

On the other hand, the Indian-origin doctors have written an open letter to the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. They have asked her to ensure justice for the victim’s family and also that these incidents are not repeated. They strongly condemned the crime and called it a ‘systematic failure’.

Recent protests have also taken place in Hyderabad and the ones in Kolkata continue. The CBI is investigating the case and also uncovered some shocking details about the alleged accused. The status report is due on August 22 which has to be presented before the Supreme Court.
