The horrific Kolkata doctor rape and murder case has sent shockwaves to the entire country. Women are scared, and doctors are demanding justice and better safety measures for women. It has created a nationwide concern, and in response to this, Fortis Hospital Shalimar Bagh launched a self-defence program for women staff along with Delhi police. It aims to provide women with the skills to protect them in dangerous circumstances.

This initiative was undertaken after a 31-year-old trainee doctor was brutally raped and murdered in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College. The main objective of this program is to provide training to over 600 female staff members. It includes a range of self-defence techniques including punches, elbow strikes, blocks, eye attacks, and strategies for escaping from hair and hand grips. Participants will also be instructed on how to use everyday objects as weapons to empower them to effectively tackle dangerous situations. Moreover, the program involves both medical and non-medical staff.
As per reports, the staff at Fortis Hospital are excited about learning self-defence. Constable Poonam from Delhi Police, leading the training talked about the importance of knowing basic defence tactics. She believes every girl and woman should be able to protect themselves in today’s world. Furthermore, Deepak Narang, Facility Director of Fortis Hospital Shalimar Bagh appreciated the initiative and thanked Delhi Police for their collaboration. Earlier West Bengal CM, Mamata Banerjee vowed to pass a bill to ensure the death penalty for rapists by next week. Moreover, the Accused, Sanjay Roy has been sent to Judicial custody till September 6. We hope the truth comes out soon and the victim gets justice.
