After West Bengal’s CM Mamata Banerjee made the controversial “If Bengal burns, others states will too,” the BJP fired back at her intensely. Union Minister Giriraj Singh criticised her tone and compared her to North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi also responded to her comment and said that the CM threatened doctors with her statement. Clarifying her stance, CM took to her X handle and shared a long post.
CM Mamata Banerjee Clarifies Her Controversial Statement On X
On August 29, she shared a long post and clarified that she didn’t speak a single word against the medical students or their movements or threaten them. She stated that she detected a malicious disinformation campaign in some print, electronic and digital media which has been unleashed regarding a speech that she made in their students’ programme yesterday. To clarify her stance, she added, “Let me most emphatically clarify that I have not uttered a single word against the (medical etc.) students or their movements.” Moreover, she supported their movement and called their movement genuine. She further also added that she never threatened them, as some people accused her of doing and called the allegation false.
Moreover, she criticised the BJP because they seemed to be endangering democracy in her state with the support of the government and were aiming to cause disorder. “With support from the Centre, they are trying to create lawlessness, and I have raised my voice against them. I also clarified that the phrase (“phonsh kara”) that I used in my speech yesterday is a quote from Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa Deva,” she added in the long post. Furthermore, she added that the legendary saint had said that occasionally there is a need to raise one’s voice. Concluding her clarification, she stated that her speech on that point was about the great Ramakrishnite’s saying.
