The Supreme Court hearing of the Kolkata rape and murder case is going to take place today. The CBI is investigating the case; as per reports, it is almost in the final stages of completing the investigation. They have also listed some major hurdles that hampered the investigation of the 31-year-old trainee doctor’s rape and murder case at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. While talking to the media, a senior CBI official revealed the problems that came along their way.
1. Lack Of Evidence
The CBI official told the PTI that many pieces of evidence were missing from the crime scene, making it difficult for them to connect the dots. The CBI also blamed the sudden renovation of the room adjacent to the crime scene that led to the lack of key evidence.
2. Ex-RG Kar College Principal Sudip Ghosh
The CBI official stated that the doctor’s rape and murder case has also uncovered the corruption going on at the hospital. While talking to PTI, the official said the the ex-RG Kar principal and three others have been arrested in the case but there are also other people involved.
3. Sole Accused
All the evidence points out that there is only one accused in the case and he is the civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy. The official also added that their investigation, which included questioning of people from the hospital and circumstantial evidence has ruled out the possibility of a gangrape, and the DNA has also confirmed Sanjay Roy’s involvement in the crime. However, the official further added that the lawyer of the accused has denied allegations against his client and has claimed that Sanjay Roy is being framed.
The CBI has also submitted a status report of the case before the SC bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud. However, since the investigation is still under process, SC has asked CBI to submit a fresh report on Tuesday.
