The Kolkata doctor rape and murder incident has shocked the nation with its gory details. It is now being reported that the main accused Sanjay Roy apparently visited the red light area district on the night the heinous crime took place. Sanjay Roy who was a civic volunteer at the RG Kar Hospital visited Sonagachi, where he got drunk and visited two brothels.

Details On Sanjay Roy

In a report by NDTV, Sanjay Roy was drunk and visited the red light area of Sonagachi, which was on the eve of August 8. The female PG trainee doctor who was raped and murdered was found dead in one of the seminar halls of the college, and the incident reportedly took place between 3 AM to 6 AM. The crime was initially registered as suicide, but after much pressure and backlash, the Kolkata Police later changed it to rape and murder, and upon investigation, Sanjay Roy was found guilty. A CCTV footage revealed him entering and leaving the same seminar hall where the trainee PG doctor was sleeping and where the crime took place.

Supreme Court On The Case

The Supreme Court has now taken Suo Moto on the case and during a hearing on the case, CJI DY Chandrachud said that the nation cannot wait for another such heinous incident to happen for things to change around in India. He also added that the existing laws and rules do not cater to institutional safety standards for doctors and medical workers. He also said that due to patriarchal biases, women doctors are targeted more. To demand justice for the PG doctor trainee, people were protesting, due to which the Kolkata police had to take strict measures. The SC also urged the Kolkata police to not unleash their powers on the protesting doctors.

In more recent updates, a former RG Kar Hospital employee has revealed that ex-principal Sandip Ghosh was involved in numerous illegal activities, and used to sell unclaimed dead bodies.
