After the gruesome rape and murder of an on-duty doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, there has been constant criticism around the actions of the ex-principal Dr Sandip Ghosh. He has been described as highly corrupt by the former colleagues of the institution. He is facing many serious allegations including financial corruption and misconduct.
List Of Allegations Against Dr Sandip Ghosh
Here is a list of allegations that ex-principal Sandip Ghosh will be facing-
1. Deliberately Failing Students
Dr Sandip Ghosh has been accused of intentionally failing students, possibly as a means of showing control.
2. Commissions On Tender
According to the reports, the principal took about 20 per cent commission on tender orders.
3. Financial Exploitation
Ghosh allegedly extorted money for any work done at the RG Kar Medical College.
4. Providing Students With Alcohol
It is claimed that Dr Sandip Ghosh supplied alcohol to some students at his guest house.
5. Domestic Violence
Ghosh was accused of sexually assaulting his wife days after she gave birth via Caesarean section.
6. Misuse Of Government Assets
He was charged with renting out public property without permission from the College Council or Swastha Bhavan.
7. Nepotism
This man allegedly favoured vendors who came through his personal connections. And he also awarded contracts worth crores to ineligible parties.
8. Recycling Medical Waste
Reused syringes, saline bottles, and gloves weighing 500–600 kg were routinely collected and recycled by two nationals of Bangladesh.
On August 9, the trainee doctor was raped and murdered in the seminar hall where she went to rest amid her 36-hour shift. This ignited anger among citizens and led to massive protests throughout the country. On August 14, a mob vandalised the midnight protests by women in Kolkata at RG Kar College making security forces to intervene and disperse the crowd.
