Kolkata Doctor Rape Case: The city of Kolkata is going through a tough time as a female trainee doctor was brutally raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical Hospital And College. Many celebrities have come forward to show their support for the deceased. As per recent reports, former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly, who is a resident of Kolkata will join in the protest and stand in solidarity with the junior doctors. For the unversed, the protest is being held to demand justice for the Kolkata doctor.

Sourav Ganguly To Join Kolkata Doctors Protests

Recent reports suggest that Sourav Ganguly along with his wife Dona Ganguly will join the protesters in Kolkata. Additionally, this update comes after he had changed his X (previously Twitter) profile picture to black to show his solidarity with Kolkata’s doctor. While he also had made a very tone-deaf comment on the incident calling it a one-off incident. He received quite a backlash for it and later had to issue a clarification for the same. While speaking to reporters at Kolkata’s Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, he was quoted saying, that he didn’t know how what he said last Sunday was construed or interpreted. He also mentioned that he had said earlier as well that the crime is a terrible thing. Now, the CBI (and the) police are investigating the matter. It’s very shameful what has happened.

He further said that he hoped the agencies find the culprit as soon as possible, and punish him in the harshest way possible, so that nobody dares to commit such a heinous crime. He also said, “There is no room to think that everything or everyone is not safe for this (incident). Such accidents happen all over the world. It is wrong to think that girls are not safe. Not only in West Bengal, but everywhere in India, women are safe.”

The Supreme Court has taken up the case on Suo Moto, which is headed by CJI DY Chandrachud.
