Kerala Education Minister Says Lessons On Body Shaming Will Be Included In School Curriculum. We Stan This Much-Needed Change!
This is great!

Growing up in school, I had a value education class every day. I am sure most people must have had it. In this class, we were taught how to be kind, compassionate, empathetic, and helpful towards other people. But I think most of us have forgotten everything that was taught in the class and took these things, as they say, ‘halke mein’! Because today, people do not think twice before being unkind to each other. And with the help of the internet, they can hide behind their screens and go about spewing hate online.

One of the most hurtful kinds of comments is targeted at plus-sized people. They are ridiculed and body-shamed to such an extent that the person on the receiving end of it suffers physically and mentally severely. And to sensitise school-going kids about body-shaming, the Kerala education minister has announced that they are going to inculcate lessons about body-shaming and its after-effects to students.
As per reports, V Sivankutty, the Kerala state education minister, deemed body-shaming as a ‘heinous’ act. He also pointed out that people body-shame other people in a friendly manner but do not realise how adversely it affects them. He went on to say that the victims of body-shaming have lost their ‘sanity’ after a point.
Talking about incorporating lessons on body shaming, V Sivankutty said that a healthy discussion is required on this topic in schools, and also that the government will try to include this in the curriculum. He also shared a post on Facebook where he talked about an incident that took place with a school-going student.

We are glad that body shaming is finally being treated as a real issue in our country. At least it has started somewhere. It is not as casual as people make it out to be and sensitising children from a young age about it will make a huge impact when they grow up too!
