Emergency actor Kangana Ranaut has openly criticized the handling of the Kolkata rape-murder case by the West Bengal government, suggesting that Uttar Pradesh’s approach under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath might ensure swifter justice. In her remarks, she highlighted the stark contrast in how different states manage criminal justice, particularly in cases involving crimes against women.
Kangana Ranaut On Kolkata Doctor Rape, Murder Case
Kangana Ranaut pointed out the effectiveness of the Uttar Pradesh model, where recent cases have seen quick legal actions. She referenced a disturbing incident earlier this month in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, where a 57-year-old government official was arrested the day after he raped a six-year-old Dalit girl. The swift arrest was followed by the suspension of the official, and the UP police advocated for a speedy trial to ensure prompt justice. Additionally, the Uttar Pradesh government responded with financial support, announcing aid of Rs 8.25 lakh for the survivor’s family, illustrating a comprehensive approach to handling such sensitive cases.
The actress advocated for a similar model to be adopted in West Bengal, stressing the need for a justice system that not only acts swiftly but also incorporates measures that deter potential criminals through the fear of rapid and decisive action. This, she argued, could help in significantly reducing the incidence of crimes against women. Kangana’s comments come in the wake of the brutal incident at Kolkata’s RG Kar hospital, where a young trainee doctor was found murdered and allegedly raped, which sparked widespread outrage and calls for improved safety measures for women in the region. She criticized the delayed response and procedural lapses in the case, contrasting them with the proactive and swift actions seen in Uttar Pradesh.
