YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra was recently arrested under espionage charges for her alleged links with Pakistani Intelligence Operatives and is currently being investigated by the National Investigation Agency and the Intelligence Bureau. The YouTuber had made several trips to Pakistan, including one before the Pahalgam attack. All her trips overseas, especially to Pakistan and China, are currently being investigated by the authorities.
Jyoti’s Diary Entries
During Jyoti’s investigation, a diary of hers was recovered by the Haryana police, which gave more insights about the YouTuber’s visit to Pakistan. In one of the diary entries, which is undated, she wrote about returning to India after a 10-day trip from Pakistan. She referred to India as ‘my country.’ Jyoti mentioned how she received a lot of love from the people of Pakistan also met subscribers and friends. The YouTuber used words like ‘crazy’ and ‘colourful’ to describe Pakistan.
As reported by NDTV, in another diary entry, Jyoti addressed the Pakistani authorities, asking them to protect the temples there and let Indians meet their families from whom they were separated in 1947.
Why Was Jyoti Malhotra Arrested
The 33-year-old YouTuber, known for her channel ‘Travel with Jo’ which has over 377,000 subscribers, was arrested at her home in Hisar on May 16. Jyoti Malhotra faces charges under Sections 3 and 5 of the Official Secrets Act of 1923, as well as Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The Haryana police and investigating agencies discovered that Malhotra remained in regular contact with Ehsan-ur-Rahim, also known as Danish, a Pakistani staff member at the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi, from November 2023 to March 2025. According to Hindustan Times, Vikas Kumar, a spokesperson for Hisar police stated that Malhotra has admitted to communicating with Danish.
