Meet Ritu Karidhal, India’s Rocket Woman Who Is Leading The Chandrayaan 3 Mission

Chandrayaan 2’s failure in 2019 did not deter the Indian scientists at Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). In fact, it only fuelled their determination to rectify their mistakes and be better equipped for Chandrayaan 3. And after three years of hard work, sweat and tears, ISRO is all set to launch Chandrayaan 3 to the Moon. If this mission goes successful, it will make India the fourth nation to have taken this ‘giant leap’. But who is heading this highly important Moon mission? It is none other than India’s Rocket Woman, and ISSRO scientist Ritu Karidhal. Know more about her contribution to the Chandrayaan 3 mission.

Who is Ritu Karidhal?

Hailing from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Ritu Karidhal is an ISRO scientist who is helming the Chandrayaan 3 mission. Karidhal pursued an MSc degree in Physics from Lucknow University and further went to study at the Indian Institute of Science. An expert in Aerospace, Ritu Karidhal has been a part of ISRO since 1997.

Achievements and Awards

Ritu Karidhal is also called the Rocket Woman of India who also played a major role during India’s Mars mission. She helmed the Mars mission as the deputy director of the project. Ritu ji has been bestowed with prestigious awards for her valuable contribution to the team. Former president of India, the late DR APJ Abdul Kalam presented the ISRO Young Scientist Award in 2007, and she has also been a TED talk speaker where she highlighted keynotes about the Mars Orbiter Mission.

Chandrayaan 3 will mark India’s third lunar mission which will help Indian scientists study the soil on the Earth’s natural satellite and conduct experiments. The new updates in this mission include a decrease in the number of engines from five to four and better software too. The spacecraft is also expected to land on the Moon on August 23, 2023.
