AR Rahman, celebrated composer and musician, recently announced his separation from his wife of 29 years, Saira Banu. Coincidentally, bassist Mohini Dey, who has collaborated with Rahman on numerous projects, also revealed the end of her marriage on the same day. These simultaneous announcements sparked speculation online, leading to conjectures about a potential link between the two. However, AR Rahman and Saira’s legal representative has firmly denied any connection between their separation and Mohini Dey’s personal life update.

The lawyer clarified that Rahman and Saira’s decision to part ways was entirely personal and unrelated to any external factors. According to the representative, the couple mutually arrived at this conclusion after facing emotional challenges in their relationship. Furthermore, the lawyer dismissed any ongoing discussions around financial settlements, emphasizing that the separation is amicable and rooted in mutual respect.
Rahman and Saira married in 1995 and share three children. Over the years, the couple maintained a private family life, making the announcement of their separation a surprise to many. In his statement, Rahman expressed the emotional weight of their decision, requesting privacy and understanding as they navigate this new chapter.
Meanwhile, Mohini Dey, a prominent bassist known for her work with Rahman and as part of Gaan Bangla’s Wind of Change, also shared news of her separation from her musician husband, Mark Hartsuch. In her social media post, Dey urged for positivity and respect for her and Hartsuch’s decision, asking followers to avoid judgment during this sensitive time.
The timing of the two announcements naturally fueled rumors. However, Rahman’s lawyer emphasized that any perceived connection is baseless and coincidental. She also stressed that the separation between Rahman and Saira was a deeply considered decision, contrary to any assumptions of it being hasty or influenced by external factors.
