The IPL fever is on among cricket lovers. The 18th edition of IPL kickstarted on March 22, Friday. However, a new controversy surrounding ex-Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has now made headlines. The cricketer’s racist remark on England’s bowler Jofra Archer during the commentary has received a strong backlash on social media. What Did Harbhajan Singh Say?
The controversy happened on Day 2 of the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League. During the first match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Harbhajan Singh was shouldering the responsibility as the commentator. When Jofra Archer was bowling against the SRH batsmen, Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen, Klaasen shot two consecutive boundaries. Talking about this most, Harbhajan Singh made a rather questionable remark and said, “London me kaali taxi ka meter tez bhaagta hai, Aur yaha pe Archer sahab ka meter bhi tez bhaaga hai.” The cricketer’s insensitive comparison of Jofra with a “Kaali Taxi” (Black Taxi) was slammed by social media users.
The racist remark on air got the Netizens angry and disappointed. They strongly called out Harbhajan Singh and demanded his removal from the commentary. They expressed anger and also asked for an apology. They have also asked IPL to ban him.
