The internet is on fire after Kangana Ranaut's slap fiasco and the meme are unfunny!

Kangana Ranaut Getting Slapped At Chandigarh Airport Sparks A Memefest On Internet. It’s Not Funny, Guys!

Just when we thought the internet debates were finally on a break after the recent Lok Sabha election results, the news of former actress and now BJP member Kangana Ranaut getting slapped by a CISF constable at the Chandigarh Airport set the internet on fire. The incident happened around 3:30 pm on Thursday, June 6 while Kangana was about to board a flight to Delhi. Hours after the incident, Kangana recorded and released a video saying she was safe while confirming the incident and linking it to rising extremism and alleged terrorism in Punjab.

“A member of the CISF struck me in the face and cursed at me. She stated that she backed the farmers’ demonstrations when I asked why she did it. I’m secure. However, I worry about the increase in terrorism and extremism in Punjab,” BJP leader Kangana Ranaut shared in a video.

The Meme Police Is Here!

With a lot of tension around the incident, the Internet had already split into two extreme opinions about what is right and wrong. While some people were fighting across, we also saw a rather different lens to the incident with people connecting the incident to the  Hrithik-Kangana fiasco from before and making memes with statements like “The 6 fingers slap must be hard” around it.

The internet can take any incident and find memes on it but we’re uncomfortable with it.

The Divide Of Opinions Across The Internet Around Kangana

While some people are enjoying the memes, the Internet has become highly divided on whether it was right for the CISF constable to slap a person or not. While some people agree with the incident due to the farmers’ protest statements made by Kangana Ranaut, others are not happy with a person being assaulted by someone from security comparing it to the execution of the former prime minister Indira Gandhi. This statement was backed by Kangana Ranaut on her Instagram story as well.

The incident has left the internet in shock and divided while everyone is waiting for an official statement from the authorities.

We’re Not Okay With The Memes On Kangana Ranaut Slap-Gate

While the CISF official’s anger is justified, her behaviour isn’t. It’s understandable that someone would be angry with the actor for calling the protesting farmers “terrorists” but that doesn’t mean that one should turn to physical violence. As someone responsible for the safety and security at the airport, the CISF official should’ve handled the situation in a calm manner. Having said that, Kangana Ranaut’s reaction to the incident was just as problematic as the actor once again termed it as “terrorism”. The memes might be funny to many but they’re not funny. How is it okay to laugh when a person has been slapped? Sure, many have a strong dislike for Kangana Ranaut for her controversial opinions but in a democracy, everyone is entitled to their own opinions and it does not mean we should be okay with physical violence or laugh at an incident like it. Mocking Kangana and enjoying the fact that she was hit is not fun or funny at all.
