Indian Film Body Calls For Ban On Turkish Content On Netflix, Prime Video Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

Tensions between India and Pakistan led to a heightened boycott of Turkey. After many Indian tourists cancelled their trips to the country, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has urged streaming platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, and Jio Hotstar to boycott Turkish shows following the country’s support for Pakistan amid the ongoing feud. The organisation said they stood firmly for the interests of the nation.

FWICE Calls For Ban On Turkish Shows In India

In a statement released by them on Thursday, May 15, they wrote with serious concern and strong objection regarding the continued streaming of Turkish shows on Indian OTT platforms. They highlighted Turkey’s extended diplomatic and political support to Pakistan on problems that are harmful to India’s sovereignty and national interest, especially sensitive issues like Kashmir.

FWICE represents technicians, workers, and artists from over 36 different crafts working in the Indian media and entertainment industry. They said it was not in India’s best interests to enable content from a country that opposes its territorial integrity to be widely consumed by Indian viewers. They also urged the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to consider a boycott or restrict the streaming of Turkish shows and films on OTT channels.

According to them, such a step would send a global message and also encourage the promotion of Indian content.  We hope the Ministry will take cognisance of this matter with the seriousness it deserves and initiate appropriate steps in the national interest,” it said.
