India, Pakistan Reach Ceasefire Agreement After Intense Military Clash, Airspace Reopens

In a major breakthrough, India and Pakistan have consented to a ceasefire following a series of escalations in military activities, as both nations stopped military operations on land, sea, and air. The ceasefire follows direct discussions between the two nations’ Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) on Saturday, May 10, 2025. The request for a ceasefire was made by Pakistan, and the ceasefire took effect at 5:00 PM IST on the same day.

India And Pakistan Agree To Ceasefire

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has confirmed the ceasefire agreement and stated that the DGMOs of both countries will meet again for further discussions on May 12. The ceasefire was reached in the wake of increased tensions after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which resulted in military operations by both sides. In a statement, Indian military Colonel Sofiya Qureshi clarified that Pakistan had incurred heavy losses over the past few days after initiating unprovoked attacks on Indian military and civilian installations. India claimed that Pakistan’s offensive and defensive capabilities had been decimated over this time.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump also tweeted, affirming that the United States had been involved in mediating the ceasefire between the two nations. Trump congratulated both nations on achieving an agreement, terming it a “result of common sense and great intelligence.” U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also recognized the development and complimented the leadership of both Prime Ministers, Modi and Sharif, for their diplomatic strategy towards peace.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Ishaq Dar, also verified the ceasefire on social media, asserting Pakistan’s commitment to peace and security within the region as well as to its sovereignty.

After the ceasefire announcement, Pakistan also lifted the closure of its airspace for all flights. The airspace had been closed following India’s airstrikes, which had come after continuous ceasefire violations by Pakistan
