India Bans 16 Pakistani YouTube Channels After Pahalgam Terror Attack

The Indian government has banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels for allegedly spreading misinformation and communally sensitive content following the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The move was made on the recommendation of the Ministry of Home Affairs, according to government sources.  The banned accounts include several major Pakistani news outlets such as Geo News, Dawn, Raftar, Bol News, ARY News, Samaa TV, and Suno News. YouTube channels operated by journalists Muneeb Farooq, Umar Cheema, Asma Shirazi, and Irshad Bhatti were also blocked. Other platforms that faced action include Uzair Cricket, The Pakistan Reference, Razi Naama, and Samaa Sports.

Authorities cited the dissemination of false narratives, misinformation targeting India’s Army and security agencies, and provocative communal content as the reasons for the ban. The decision follows heightened tensions between India and Pakistan in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. The Pahalgam attack took place at the Baisaran meadow, near the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam. It is being considered one of the deadliest attacks in Jammu and Kashmir since the Pulwama incident in 2019, where 40 CRPF personnel were killed. The April 22 attack prompted a large-scale investigation and heightened security measures across the region.

Since April 23, teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) have been stationed at the attack site. Senior officials, including an Inspector General (IG), Deputy Inspector General (DIG), and Superintendent of Police (SP), are leading the inquiry. The NIA has been actively questioning eyewitnesses and gathering forensic evidence to identify and locate the perpetrators.

The Indian Army has simultaneously launched intensified search operations in the area to neutralize the terrorist elements responsible. Security across Jammu and Kashmir has been increased, with forces placed on high alert. Nationwide protests have erupted in India demanding stricter diplomatic and military responses to Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack. The ban on Pakistani YouTube channels is seen as part of broader efforts to control the spread of misinformation and maintain internal security amid rising public anger.

As of now, there has been no official response from the Pakistani government regarding the ban.
