Hyderabad Lawyer Debarred For Staring, Stalking Woman Magistrate. Is There A Safe Place For Women?

Crimes against women can only be tackled if the government and judiciary take stronger and quicker actions against the culprits. And, a woman is safe nowhere, not even if she works in the judicial department. A woman magistrate’s FIR filed in December last year finally got justice when the culprit who was a lawyer was debarred from his responsibilities by the Telangana Bar Council. The incident happened in Hyderabad and it is another shocking case that reminds us of how we still lack in making our women feel safe.

What Is The Case?

A Hyderabad woman magistrate filed a complaint against a lawyer who scared her with his creepy actions. In her complaint, the woman magistrate accused the man of constantly staring at her, and giving her gifts. The man also followed her home and would stand in front of her house and stare at her. The woman’s FIR was registered in December 2022. She also narrated the incident when she first saw the lawyer on March 8, 2022, at a legal literacy camp. After that meeting, the man also gave her a pen on her birthday which had both their names written on it. She feared sexual assault by the man and therefore was given police protection too. The man was arrested by the police too, however, he was immediately released by the magistrate.

What’s The Verdict?

On Monday, the Telangana Bar Council finally informed the High Court that the accused had been removed from his duties as a lawyer. They further informed that the legal team found enough evidence against him to prove that the man was guilty. The High Court bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J Anil Kumar have asked the police for a detailed report on the investigation within the next 4 weeks.
