Meghalaya Murder Row: Did You Know How Sonam Met Raja Raghuvanshi Before Marriage?

As the shocking details of Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder continue to unfold, a new revelation has emerged about how he first met his wife and alleged killer, Sonam Raghuvanshi. How Did Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raja Raghuvanshi Meet?

In an interview with NDTV, Arpit shared that neither Raja nor Sonam’s families knew each other before this arranged match. Both families, originally from Indore in Madhya Pradesh, were introduced via the app and eventually began visiting one another. Their interactions were cordial, and the wedding was finalised during a meeting at Sonam’s residence on February 10. “It wasn’t a love marriage,” Arpit clarified. “The connection was made traditionally through the community app, and both families seemed happy with the arrangement.”

But cracks began to show even before the wedding. Arpit revealed that Raja often struggled to get through to Sonam on the phone. “He would tell us that she hardly picked up his calls. She’d always say she was busy handling the family business along with her brother,” he recalled. Raja, who also ran a business, tried to engage her in wedding discussions, but Sonam remained distant.

Despite these early signs, no one in the family suspected anything sinister. Sonam never expressed discontent with the match, Arpit said. After the couple disappeared during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, the family feared the worst, but still hoped for both of their safety. “When we heard that they were missing, our first instinct was worry for both of them,” he said. “We genuinely prayed that Sonam would be found safe, never imagining she could be behind this.”
The truth hit like a thunderbolt. First came the discovery of Raja’s body at the bottom of a gorge. Then, the investigation uncovered that Sonam, allegedly in love with another man, had orchestrated her husband’s murder just days after their wedding by hiring three contract killers.

Raja, described by Arpit as innocent and deeply loved by his family, was the youngest of four brothers. “He was cheerful, trusting, and never involved in drama,” he said. Sonam’s family, meanwhile, has publicly disowned her. Arpit praised her brother Govind for taking a firm stance. “He chose truth over blood, and society respects that,” he said.
