The Hema Committee Report has caught everyone’s attention and shaken people across various film industries to its core. Following the release of the report, it uncovered widespread s*xual exploitation of women in the Malayalam film industry, and several complaints have been lodged against well-known figures in the industry. Shortly after, similar allegations also emerged in the Tamil film industry. In response, Vishal, a renowned Tamil actor and General Secretary of the Nadigar Sangam revealed that Nadigar Sangam will set up a committee like the Hema Committee.
Tamil Actors Union To Ban S*xual Offenders For Five Years Amid Hema Committee Row
The South Indian Artistes’ Association (SIAA), also known as the Nadigar Sangam proposed a five-year ban on s*xual offenders from the Tamil film industry. SIAA represents actors in Tamil Nadu’s film, television, and stage industry. On Wednesday, the Gender Sensitisation and Internal Complaints Committee (GSICC) conducted a meeting and passed the resolution imposing a ban on s*xual offenders. Moreover, the resolution also mentioned that the committee will help victims with legal support. Initially, alleged offenders will receive a warning and appropriate action will be taken. Victims can report their complaints to the actors’ association through a dedicated phone number and a newly established email address.
Furthermore, the Nadigar Sangam will support victims who want to file complaints regarding content on YouTube channels. According to their statement, the association advised victims to contact the Committee first before going to the media directly with their complaints. The release of the report has grabbed eyeballs from various industries. Several accusations have been made against actors Jayasurya, Mukesh, Siddique, Baburaj, and Edavela Babu.
