Vinesh Phogat has won the Julana assembly constituency in Haryana by beating BJP’s candidate, Yogesh Bairagi. According to news reports, the former wrestler won by a margin of 5761 votes. Although the Election Commission data indicated that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party was more likely to win Haryana for the third time in a row, however; Vinesh Phogat remained confident about Congress’s victory.
Wrestler Turned Politician Vinesh Phogat Wins Julana Seat In Haryana Election
Born in Charkhi Dadri, Vinesh Phogat joined Congress after coming back from the Olympic Games. She was disqualified from the women’s 50-kilogram freestyle wrestling final because she was 100 grams overweight. And now, Vinesh Phogat, the Congress candidate and former wrestler, has won the Julana seat in the Haryana assembly elections in 2024! Vinesh expressed her excitement to the media saying, “This is the fight of every girl, every woman who chooses the path to fight. This is the victory of every struggle, truth. I will maintain the love and trust that this country has given me.”

Vinesh got 65,080 votes after 15 rounds of counting, winning by a margin of 6,015 votes over Yogesh Bairagi. Also, this is the first time in 19 years that Congress has won this seat. Furthermore, the counting of the votes from the Haryana elections took place on October 5. Moreover, wrestler Bajrang Punia took to his social media handle and congratulated her. He wrote, “Many congratulations to the country’s daughter Vinesh Phogat for her victory. This fight was not just for one Julana seat, not just with 3-4 more candidates, not just a fight between parties. This fight was against the strongest oppressive forces in the country. And Vinesh was the winner in this. #VineshPhogat #HaryanaElectionResults2024.”
