She announced the news on her Instagram handle with a lengthy, heartfelt note. Although many were shocked after coming across this announcement, they thanked her for her contribution over the years.
Harmanpreet Kaur Steps Down From India Captaincy
Harmanpreet Kaur took to her Instagram account to share the news that she has stepped down as captain. She shared a picture of herself facing towards the ground and captioned that this wasn’t an easy decision, as it carries years of memories, emotions, sacrifices, and moments that will stay with her for the rest of her life. She recalled giving everything she had to this team and to Indian women’s cricket, which includes her blood, sweat, time, and many times, a part of her own game and personal ambitions. She revealed that there were moments when she had to put her individual performance, her own growth, and what she desired for herself aside because she believed the team had to come first. Harmanpreet Kaur stated that as a captain, she had to make difficult decisions that were not always understood, not always easy, and sometimes came at a personal cost. However, every decision she made was with one intention, which was to make her team better and to give other players the opportunity to grow, believe in themselves and become the best versions of themselves. The cricketer stated that she has seen the lowest moments, the heartbreak, the criticism, the doubts and the days when nothing seemed to go their way, adding that she, on the other hand, has also experienced the highest highs, which include the wins, the celebrations, the pride of representing India and the moments that made every sacrifice worth it.

Harmanpreet Kaur Expresses Gratitude!
Further in the caption, Harmanpreet Kaur expressed that she was leaving the captaincy with a heart full of emotions and peace. She truly believes that her team is in a good place. She stated that her team has talent, character, belief and a future that she is excited to watch and be a part of. Harmanpreet Kaur expressed feeling that she has done her duty and that she gave her team everything she had. The cricketer penned that she carried the responsibility with pride and that she will always be grateful for the privilege of leading Indian women’s cricket. However, she also mentioned that it was time for her to turn the page. For her, captaincy may come to an end but her love for Indian cricket never will. Harmanpreet Kaur thanked every teammate, coach, support staff, management, BCCI, family member, and every single fan who stood by her through the highs and lows. She further revealed being ready to play for the love of the game again. The cricketer concluded the caption with “Captaincy ends. The journey continues.”
It’s important to mention that Harmanpreet Kaur is expected to continue leading the Mumbai Indians in the upcoming WPL. Meanwhile, speculation around Smriti Mandhana taking over the role has also gained momentum.
