Chief of Sirsa Dera’s Sachcha Sauda, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has been granted a 21-day furlough again. This is the second time this year that he has gotten a break from his jail sentence. During this break, Furmeet Ram Ragim Singh, a rape convict will stay in his Dera Ashram in Banwar in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhagpat. Well, looks like Independence Day came early for this convict and no one is happy.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Gets A 21- Day Furlough
Days after the Punjab and Haryana High Court dismissed the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee’s (SGPC) appeal against Singh’s temporary release, the leader of the Dera sect, based in Sirsa, was given his temporary parole. On August 9, the Punjab and Haryana High Court the convict’s petition for a temporary release should be decided by suitable authorities without any favouritism. The convict filed a motion with the court requesting a 21-day release. The Haryana government was instructed by the High Court not to grant him any more parole without its consent in February of this year. This came after on January 19, he was given a 50-day parole.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was sentenced to 20 years for raping two of his disciples. He is currently serving his time in Sunaria Jail Haryana’s Rohtak. The man has been in jail since 2017. In 2019, the Dera chief and three other individuals were found guilty of the over-16-year-old murder of a journalist. Due to “tainted and sketchy” investigations, the high court in May cleared Singh and four other people in the 2002 murder of the sect’s former manager, Ranjit Singh. The Dera chief has seen multiple furloughs throughout his incarceration.
