Nowadays, we can at least say that being born a girl is acceptable. The same was not the case a few decades ago. Some people have literally committed crimes just so they could get rid of their female child. Others just simply treat her as inferior! It appears that the Olympic bronze medallist, Saina Nehwal also had to face the consequences of being born a girl. The badminton player revealed that her grandmother didn’t meet her for a month just because she was born a female. She opened up about it to Siddhaarth Aalambayan, the host of Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist.
Saina Nehwal’s Grandmother Did Not Meet Her For A Month After Birth
During their conversation, host Siddhaarth Aalambayan asked Saina Nehwal if it was true that her grandmother didn’t meet her for a month because she was a female child. Saina confirmed this and stated, “My father had told this story to me. When I became the second-best female badminton player in the world, my father gave many interviews and obviously, he was very emotional at the time.”
She added that she used to think that boys would do better than girls and maybe that’s why many wanted a male child in Haryana. Further, Saina added, “Two females were born in my family–me and my sister and maybe that’s why my grandmother thought that it would be better if there was a boy and a girl child in their family. She did not see me for a month.”
