Did You Know Pratim Bora Reportedly Earned 10 Lakhs By Creating AI Generated Photos Of Archita Phukan?

In a chillingly sinister case of the darker aspects of artificial intelligence, a man has been arrested for supposedly developing a viral AI-driven Instagram personality using doctored photos and clips of his ex-partner without her consent or awareness. The online persona Babydoll Archi had stormed the social media scene within the last few weeks. With a following of more than 1.4 million people and several viral reels, including a widely popular video showing a saree-clad woman lip-syncing to Spanish song Dame Un Grrr, the handle soon became a household name.

Pratim Bora Earned 10 Lakhs Through Babydoll Archi Instagram

The woman in the clips was admired for her charm and beauty, attracting endorsement deals and even blue badge verification from the platform. But beneath the polished posts lay a chilling reality: Babydoll Archi did not exist. She was a computer-generated character, created by AI tools and made from morphed images of an actual woman, Archita Phukan, a married woman from Dibrugarh, Assam.

Archita Phukan had no idea that one picture of her, in the possession of her ex Pratim Bora, had been manipulated to create an online persona that would eventually become the subject of national interest.

The creator behind the account, Pratim Bora, is a mechanical engineer from Assam’s Tinsukia. Having studied in Haryana, he was working for a Delhi-based company remotely. Generating so much buzz in such a short time with his elaborate social media profile based on Archita’s face, Bora, said the Dibrugarh police, wanted fame and money.

The authorities assert that Pratim Bora commodified the viral content and earned in excess of 10 lakhs from sponsored posts as well as online promotions in the name of Babydoll Archi.

“This was not merely a prank, or a case of fixation, this was a carefully thought-out attempt to capitalise on someone’s identity,” declared Sizal Agarwal, Senior Superintendent of Police of Dibrugarh.  The case, which was filed on July 12, is being investigated as a case of cyber defamation and abuse of AI technologies.
